Louisiana Lottery Recognizes Retailers Behind Historic April 29 Powerball Drawing

Louisiana retailers celebrate selling winning Powerball tickets during historic April 29 drawing.

BATON ROUGE – Ten Louisiana retailers are celebrating after the historic April 29 Powerball drawing that produced eleven million-dollar-plus winning tickets across the state, combining for $16 million in winnings sold at their stores. From Shreveport to Gretna, the winning tickets were spread across the state.

A Double Win in Shreveport
Khadka Kumar, owner of both Airport Chevron and Raceway 6802 in Shreveport, sold both a $1 million winning ticket at one store and a $2 million winning ticket at the other.

“I feel like I won the Powerball,” he said. “I am so happy for my customers who won and their families, what a blessing it is to all.”

Baton Rouge Area Retailers Sharing in the Surprise
Some retailers couldn’t believe it was true. Circle K #9729 Store Manager Ms. Love, which sold a $1 million winning ticket, thought Lottery officials were mistaken when visiting her Baton Rouge store to verify the purchase.

“I had spoken to the manager from the Circle K store down the street and knew they had sold a winning ticket; but until [they] arrived, I was unaware that my store had sold one as well,” she said.

That neighboring store, Circle K #9723, managed by Amber Keelglover, sold a $2 million winning ticket.

“I called my Lottery sales representative, Debi, early Thursday morning after Lottery officials visited to verify the purchase,” she said. “My team and I are so excited!”

In Denham Springs, Circle K Store 2706829 Cashier Adryana Nugent had only been working at the store for six months when both a $1 million winning ticket and a $2 million winning ticket were sold during the April 29 drawing.

“I’m extremely excited to see someone win that type of money here,” she said.

Racetrac #2569 Manager Brandy Williams and General Manager Bria Flugence were thrilled to find out they sold the $1 million winning ticket to one of their regular customers at their Denham Springs location.

Celebration in CENLA and Southwest Louisiana
In Singer, Tahir Swati, owner of Singer Food Store, was also unexpectedly surprised to find out his store sold a $2 million winning ticket. He had to verify the news for himself.

“I couldn’t believe it, until I checked online and found out it was true,” he said. “My team and I started cheering and dancing.”

Tobacco Plus #16 in Alexandria sold a $2 million winning ticket. The manager, Dickey Gagnard, hopes to see more huge wins like this in the state.

Greater New Orleans Wins
Store Owners like Ghassan Jabbar, owner of G-Zone in Marrero, which sold a $1 million winning ticket, were elated about the potential traffic the sale could drive to his store. He sees this as not just a moment of excitement, but a sign of good things to come.

“This is a dream come true to aid in more traffic to the store; hopefully we’ll get the jackpot winner next time,” he said.

In Gretna, Magnolia Discount sold a $1 million winning ticket. Its owner, Rick Fouad, shared his thoughts about this historic win.

“It feels amazing that my store sold one of 11 winning tickets in Louisiana,” he said. “It’s been a long time since Louisiana hit big, and I’m proud to be a part of that number.”

“Unprecedented moments like this bring the entire state together in a pure expression of joy,” said Lottery President Rose Hudson. “We here at the Lottery want to congratulate all of our incredible retailers who saw success during the April 29 drawing and all of the winners who will come forward to claim their prize. We hope this moment has given Louisiana a few million reasons to smile.”
