BATON ROUGE – The final $2 million match-5 Powerball® with Power Play prize was claimed on Thursday, May 21 by George McLeod of Singer at Lottery headquarters in Baton Rouge. The ticket was sold at Singer Food Store located at 9050 La-27 in Singer.
Mr. McLeod took home $1,460,000 after state and federal tax withholdings, and Singer Food Store earned a $20,000 bonus, or 1% of the prize amount, for selling the ticket.
Singer Food Store Owner and Manager Tahir Swati was excited to be a part of the unprecedented drawing. He and his team started “cheering and dancing” when it was revealed their store sold one of the winning tickets.
A $1 million match-5 Powerball® prize sold at Magnolia Discount, located at 516 LaPalco Blvd. in Gretna, was claimed by Friendly Smiles Enterprises on Friday, May 29 on behalf of their client.
They took home $730,000 after state and federal tax withholdings, and Magnolia Discount received a $10,000 bonus, or 1% of the prize amount.
Magnolia Discount Owner Rick Fouad was also filled with pride after the sale.
“It feels amazing that my store sold one of 11 winning tickets in Louisiana,” he said. “It’s been a long time since Louisiana hit big, and I’m proud to be a part of that number.”
As of June 1, only one $1 million prize from this drawing remains unclaimed.
“We want to congratulate our winners on claiming their prizes from the April 29 drawing and encourage the final $1 million winner to claim their prize before the October 26 expiration date,” said Lottery President Rose Hudson.
The Louisiana Lottery encourages all players to sign the back of their tickets immediately after purchasing to protect their claim. Winning tickets for draw-style games must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing date.
