BATON ROUGE – With nearly $108 million transferred to the state treasury during the first half of fiscal year 2026, the Louisiana Lottery Corporation has now surpassed $5 billion in total transfers to support the state’s Minimum Foundation Program (MFP), which dedicates its funds to K–12 public education.
Several large multi-state jackpot runs, including two billion-dollar plus Powerball rolls in September and December and a $983 million Mega Millions jackpot in November, helped drive excitement and sales, along with solid scratch-off performance during the holiday season.
“Strong jackpot activity, steady scratch-off sales, and the dedication of our retail partners helped deliver a solid start to the fiscal year and meaningful returns for Louisiana,” said Lottery President Rose Hudson. “Our focus remains on our mission to generate maximum revenue for the state while upholding the highest standards of integrity and public trust.”
With revenue of $335,973,291, the Lottery’s total first- and second-quarter state transfers equaled $107,967,991. Since the Lottery began operations in 1991, more than $14.2 billion in revenue has been generated, primarily from ticket sales. Over $5 billion has been transferred to the state treasury to support K–12 public education, representing about 35% of total revenue.
Retailers remain a key part of the Lottery’s success. Retail partners earn a 5% sales commission on every ticket sale.
“We’re grateful for the strong partnerships we share with more than 2,900 retailers across the state and the players who love the Louisiana Lottery,” said Lottery President Rose Hudson. “Because of them, we’re able to fulfill our mission and return significant funding to the state’s Minimum Foundation Program, supporting K–12 public education. Reaching the $5 billion milestone as we head into our 35th anniversary year makes this moment even more meaningful.”
As the Lottery approaches its 35th anniversary, players can look forward to throwback games, expanded second-chance promotions, and partnerships with organizations like the New Orleans Saints, the New Orleans Pelicans, NASCAR, and more.
Lottery ticket purchasers must be at least 21 years of age. Anyone with a gambling problem, or friends of anyone with a gambling problem, is encouraged to call toll-free 1-877-770-7867 for assistance. For security purposes, players should sign the back of their tickets after purchasing.
