In-Store Winner Awareness
Reaching Customers & Increasing Same Visit Sales

By posting winner awareness messages in their store, retailers not only dispel the myth that "there are no winners," they also bring excitement to their store. This extra attention is great public relations and can help increase sales and customer loyalty. What other store product creates this kind of connection to the customer? Take advantage of it!

In fact, 10 percent of players in an online survey said they make an effort to shop at the retailer where a winning ticket is sold.  Here are ways winner awareness affects consumer behavior.

 I play more often. - 29%
I try the game which was won. - 19%
 I tell others about it. - 17% (174)
I shop at the store where the winning ticket was sold. - 10%

Winnings of Up to $600

Here are some ways to maximize winner awareness at the retailer level:

"Decorate" your Lottery play center, front register area or overhead counter with validated winning tickets. Attach a validation receipt showing what was won. Be sure to mark through the ticket bar code. This is a colorful way to get customers attention as they wait at the checkout.

Use a bulletin board or store wall to create a "winner's circle." Take Polaroid or digital pictures of winners to post, with their permission of course.

Use your store's own outdoor signage to announce big winners.

Winnings Over $600

Even though large winnings must be claimed at the Lottery's offices, the Lottery recognizes the value winner awareness brings to the retailer and conducts the following initiatives to promote your store:

Retailers are mentioned in all news releases and web stories regarding winning tickets and in the "Meet Our Winners" section of the Lottery's Web site.

CSRs will supply their retailers with a "We Sold the Winning Ticket HERE" banner to display outside their store for a limited time following a large win. These colorful banners attract attention from traffic and can bring in new customer's and create valuable "buzz" about your store.

Create and post winner awareness flyers at the play center or near the register.
