Lottery Reports Strong Third Quarter Transfers to State

For the third quarter of fiscal year 2013, the Louisiana Lottery Corporation transferred $39.3 million to the state, bringing total fiscal year-to-date contributions to $114.8 million, up about 1 percent from 2012 and exceeding budgeted transfers by more than $5.9 million.

With third-quarter revenue of $112,422,249, Lottery state proceeds reached $39,347,790. By law, thirty-five percent of Lottery revenue is transferred to the state treasury and dedicated for K-12 public education. No other lottery jurisdiction in the U.S. contributes a greater percentage of revenue to its government.

Lottery President Rose Hudson credited the Lottery's success over the last three months to another huge Powerball jackpot run up to $338.3 million for the March 23 drawing, plus solid scratch-off sales thanks to big performers like the $5 licensed game, MONOPOLYTM.

"For the last several years, big jackpots have created a demand for our multistate jackpot games and have helped contribute to some of the best fiscal years in our history," said Lottery President Rose Hudson. "To continue to produce these types of results, we know our games must capture our players' imaginations. Toward that end, we are giving players new reasons to try our tried-and-true in-state jackpot games, Easy 5 and Lotto through special promotions all spring." 

Retailers earn five percent sales commission on Lottery tickets, plus incentives for cashing winning tickets and bonuses for selling winning tickets, totaling more than $6.2 million for January through March of 2013.
