Second Quarter Lottery Transfers Up $13.2 Million From Last Year

BATON ROUGE – For the second quarter of fiscal year 2021, the Louisiana Lottery Corporation transferred nearly $47 million to the state treasury, bringing total year-to-date contributions to over $94.7 million. This represents an increase of more than $13.2 million from the first two quarters of fiscal year 2020 and exceeds budgeted transfers by more than $15.6 million. 
 

“Sales for the second quarter of this fiscal year were strong due to high demand for our scratch-off games and phenomenal growth of our daily numbers games Pick 3 and Pick 4,” said Lottery President Rose Hudson. “Ending out December, monthly sales have eclipsed $40 million for the 10th consecutive month, the longest streak in our history.” 
 

With revenue of $138,796,982, the Lottery’s total second-quarter state transfers were $46,685,930 or 33.6%. Since the Lottery began operations in 1991, it has brought in more than $11.3 billion in revenue and transferred over $4 billion to the state treasury.
 

In fiscal year 2021, the Lottery began adjusting scratch-off game prize structures, increasing prize payouts and adding more of the higher price-point games that have grown in popularity. That strategy has paid off nicely so far, resulting in net gains for the state.
 

  Local businesses who sell Lottery tickets also saw their compensation increase for the second quarter of the fiscal year. Retailer commission, incentives for cashing winning tickets and bonuses for selling winning tickets totaled more than $7.8 million for October through December of 2020.
