Brand new to playing the game, K. A. Miller of Lafayette claimed the first Lotto jackpot prize of 2020 -- $525,000 from the Jan. 29th drawing -- after his ticket matched all six numbers.

Miller said he typically plays Powerball but recently decided to “branch out” and try Lotto, especially since it “only costs a dollar.”

The winning ticket was sold at Lafayette Corner Express on N. University Avenue in Lafayette. The store received a one-time selling bonus of $5,250, which is 1% of the jackpot prize.

The winning numbers were 25-27-28-31-33-37. Miller claimed the prize Monday at the Lottery’s Baton Rouge headquarters and received $372,750 after state and federal tax withholdings.

Lottery ticket purchasers must be at least 21 years of age. Draw-style game tickets must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing. Anyone who may have a gambling problem or friends and family of anyone with a gambling problem should call toll free 1-877-770-7867 for help.

For security purposes, the Lottery strongly encourages players to sign the back of their tickets immediately after purchasing. More information about Lotto and other jackpot winners can be found on the Lottery’s website, www.louisianalottery.com/lotto.
