Leanett Williams of Baton Rouge was almost as excited to receive her promotional “big check” as she was to receive the real thing when she claimed her Pick 5 winnings on June 11 at Lottery Headquarters!

After matching all five digits straight for the June 9 drawing, she won the $25,000 prize, taking home $18,250 after state and federal tax withholdings.

Leanett’s win was partially due to one of her close friends! She and her friend would play the same numbers every time they played Pick 5, but when her friend decided to stop playing those numbers, Leanett soldiered on.

While Leanett was at work, her friend checked both of their Pick 5 tickets and discovered Leanett’s was a $25,000 winner. Leanett immediately left work to check the ticket for herself but did not think it was a winner, so she returned to her job.

“When I got off work later that night, I checked the ticket again and thought it was a $2,500 winner,” she said. It wasn’t until later that she realized she did, in fact, hold a $25,000 winning ticket!

Leanett plans to use her winnings to go back-to-school shopping for her three grandchildren. When asked what she plans to do with the “big check”, she said she will display it on her wall.
