John Stokes of DeRidder purchased his Powerball ticket for the September 1 drawing hoping to take home the $1.1 billion jackpot. Though he missed the jackpot by one number, he was still able to take home a whopping $150,000!
Stokes matched four of the white ball numbers and the red Powerball number correctly and added the Power Play option, which tripled his winnings.
Stokes purchased his ticket from Billie’s Wag-A-Bag, LLC on 915 W 1st Street in Deridder, due to its convenient location. The night he purchased the ticket, Stokes says he and his family were about to go to bed when they randomly decided to check the winning numbers.
“We were shocked and feel so blessed,” he said when claiming his prize on September 2 at the Lottery’s Alexandria regional office.
As of September 3, the Powerball jackpot is at $1.4 billion and is the fourth largest Powerball jackpot and sixth largest jackpot among all U.S. lottery jackpot games.
“We always love seeing our loyal players, like Mr. Stokes, win big,” said Rose Hudson, Lottery President. “We are excited to see more Louisiana winners come forward during this exciting and historic Powerball Jackpot run.”
The winning numbers for the September 1 Powerball drawing were 08-23-25-40-53, and the red Powerball number was 05.
John plans to use a portion of his winnings to pay off some bills. Congratulations, John!
