Springfield Couple Wins $12,000 During Holiday Shopping Trip

A holiday shopping trip paid for itself when David Abels of Springfield won a $12,000 top prize from the Lottery's $2 scratch-off Talkin' Turkey. 

"My wife and I stopped at a gas station on our way into town to do some Christmas shopping and bought three tickets," said Davis. "I handed her the tickets to scratch while I drove, and the next thing I knew she was telling me to pull over immediately because we had a winner."

Abels said he and his wife plan to use their winnings to purchase Christmas presents for their family.

He purchased his winning scratch-off from Energy Express on LA Highway 22 in Springfield.

Talkin' Turkey is a $2 game that features 10 chances to win on each ticket. The game has two $12,000 top prizes remaining as of Dec. 7.
