Louisiana Lottery Partners With Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club for New Mardi Gras Scratch-off

Deep-rooted Louisiana heritage, jubilant celebrations and a commitment to community service aren't the only things the Louisiana Lottery and the historical Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club, Inc. have in common.  On Dec. 14, a festive carnival-themed scratch-off ticket can be added to that list.  

"In partnering with the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club to develop a Mardi Gras scratch-off game, the Louisiana Lottery has once again created a win-win strategic branding opportunity that not only generates proceeds for the state, but also highlights Louisiana's unique cultural assets," said Lottery President Rose Hudson. 

The Zulu scratch-off is a $2 game with five top prizes of $10,000 and more than $1 million in total cash prizes.  The colorful ticket features the three major Zulu characters in full parade regalia.  First and foremost is the King, the pinnacle of carnival, who represents the aspiration of every man. Next is the Big Shot, known for his flamboyant dress and spectacular diamond doorknob ring; he is easily recognizable on the ticket by his large cigar and traditional derby hat. They are accompanied by the Witch Doctor, whose chief responsibility is to ensure good weather throughout the Mardi Gras season and specifically on Mardi Gras Day.

"Featuring Zulu's name and icons on a Lottery scratch-off game enhances our profile throughout the state and highlights our illustrious 100-year history," said Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club Assistant Recording Secretary Jay H. Banks. "It's also a natural marriage of brands because both Zulu and the Lottery are known for fun and excitement; they both also greatly benefit our community. While Lottery proceeds help fund public education, Zulu and its 700 members demonstrate social aid with multiple community improvement projects, ranging from hurricane recovery to student mentoring and many others."

As part of its partnership with Zulu, the Lottery will give away the ride of a lifetime, a ride on a float in the 2010 Zulu Mardi Gras parade for one player and a guest. From Dec. 14, 2009 to Jan. 30, 2010, members of the Lottery's free online players club, Club Lotteaux, can log into the password-protected site to take the Zulu Mardi Gras Trivia Challenge, a series of multiple choice questions about the parade's history. One winner who answers correctly will be randomly selected to win the giveaway. No purchase is necessary.
