BATON ROUGE — The Powerball jackpot run that ended in a record-setting $1.78 billion prize also produced several Louisiana winners, including a $50,000 ticket sold in Lafayette for the September 3 drawing.
Daniel Maggio of Lafayette claimed the winning prize at the Lottery’s Lafayette regional office on Friday, September 5. He matched four of the five white ball numbers plus the red Powerball number. Maggio purchased the winning ticket at More 4 Less Gold on Ridge Road in Lafayette.
Drawn in by the massive jackpot, which had climbed to $1.44 billion on September 3, Maggio said he was hoping for a big win.
“We found out we won right after the numbers were revealed and we were so excited,” Maggio said. “We’re so glad we bought tickets!”
The winning numbers for the September 3 Powerball drawing were 03-16-29-61-69 and the red Powerball number was 22.
“We are thrilled for Mr. Maggio and winners across Louisiana who got to experience the excitement of this historic jackpot run,” said Rose Hudson, Lottery President. “There are still several winning tickets left unclaimed, and we hope those winners step forward soon.”
The Louisiana Lottery reminds players to sign the back of their tickets immediately after purchase to safeguard their claims. Winning tickets for draw-style games must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing date.
The winning numbers for the September 6 Powerball drawing were 11-23-44-61-62 and the red Powerball number was 17. The jackpot was won by two winning tickets sold in Missouri and Texas.
