Anne Arikol of Baton Rouge expects to be very popular with her grandchildren after claiming the $1,005,040 Lotto jackpot prize from the March 7 drawing at Louisiana Lottery headquarters on Friday. The 71-year-old grandmother of five plans to use a portion of her winnings to pay for her grandkids' college tuition.

Arikol's husband usually purchases the couple's Louisiana Lotto tickets, but Arikol made the purchase herself this time. Straying from routine paid off, as Arikol purchased the jackpot-winning ticket. Arikol's husband jokingly assured Lottery employees there is no spousal rivalry, as he had his own winning ticket from a recent Lotto drawing, matching three numbers to win $3.

Winn Dixie Store #1467 on Old Hammond Highway in Baton Rouge sold Arikol her winning ticket and will receive $10,050, which is 1 percent of the prize, for the sale. The winning numbers for the March 7 Lotto drawing were 05-19-27-28-32-35.

After federal and state taxes were withheld, Arikol received $703,528.

Lottery ticket purchasers must be at least 21 years of age.  Draw-style game tickets must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing.  Anyone who may have a gambling problem or friends and family of anyone with a gambling problem should call toll free 1-877-770-7867 for help.  For security purposes, the Lottery strongly encourages players to sign the back of their tickets immediately after purchasing.
