Henry A. Swaney Sr. of New Orleans is a firm believer in the saying "you can't win if you don't play."  That's because he claimed a $10,000 prize at the Louisiana Lottery Corporation's New Orleans office as a result of a winning Powerball ticket from the Dec. 12 drawing.

"Everyone says 'you're not going to win', but you definitely can't if you don't play," said Swaney, age 47.  His ticket matched four white ball numbers drawn plus the red Powerball number to win his prize.  The winning numbers for the Dec. 12 Powerball drawing were 7-14-33-40-55 and the Powerball number was 15.

Swaney, who said he has no plans for his winnings yet, purchased his ticket at Circle K #0562 on Highway 23 in Belle Chasse.  His ticket was a "quick pick," meaning the Lottery's terminal randomly selected his numbers.

Ticket purchasers must be at least 21 years of age.  The Lottery encourages anyone who has a gambling problem or friends and family of anyone with a gambling problem to call toll-free 1-877-770-7867 for help.
