New Orleans Resident Surprised with $200,000 Win on Powerball Ticket
When Cornelia L. Poston of New Orleans entered the Louisiana Lottery Corporation's New Orleans office with her husband, Sherman, and her son, Dwayne Sidney, she thought that her ticket from the Oct. 17 Powerball drawing had won $4,400. She was in shock to find out that it had actually matched all five of the white numbers drawn to win $200,000.
"You can't describe how it feels to win!" said Poston, who claimed her prize just a week shy of her 57th birthday. "I'd like to buy a house!"
At the regional office, Sidney asked Lottery Secretary Cindy Bellizan how much his mother had actually won. "When she told me, I teased my mom that there was a problem with her ticket," he said. "I told her that it wasn't a winner and that she needed to come take a look."
Poston came to check the problem and when she realized the ticket's value, her excited screams caused the entire office staff to rush to the front to see what was happening.
"It was nice to see her so excited," said Bellizan.
Poston purchased her winning ticket at Get & Go on Stumpf Boulevard in Gretna. The winning numbers for the Oct. 17 Powerball drawing were 14-15-19-42-46 and the Powerball number was 37.
