SLU Student from Kenner Claims $10,007 Prize from Sept. 26 Powerball Drawing
"We looked on the Lottery's Web site to check the numbers after the drawing, and I had to check them five times to make sure I won," said Smith, age 22. "Then I had my girlfriend check the numbers, too." He said he plans to use his winnings to purchase a TV and share some with his girlfriend, Kelly O'Shaughnessy.
Smith's Powerball ticket matched four of the five white ball numbers plus the red Powerball to win $10,000. He also won $7 on another ticket by matching two of the white ball numbers plus the Powerball, bringing his total prize to $10,007. Smith purchased his winning tickets at Energy Express on Highway 22 in Springfield.
"We saw a television show about Lottery winners, and these numbers came up at the end of the show as the most commonly drawn numbers for lottery games across America," said O'Shaughnessy. "I just picked the number eight as the Powerball because I had a feeling."
The winning numbers for the Sept. 26 drawing were 25-27-31-44-54 and the Powerball number was 8.
