The Louisiana Lottery just launched a new mobile application in the App Store and Google Play with the promise that users will have the power to play their way. The Louisiana Lottery Official Mobile App’s most sought-after feature is the ability for players to check their own tickets on their mobile device. The app also allows players to create digital playslips using fun, new number-selection methods and save the playslips for ticket purchase at retail.

With players’ ability to check their own tickets, the app promotes communication, trust and convenience. Our players have been asking for this type of feature, and we know it will be extremely popular,” explained Louisiana Lottery President Rose Hudson. “Finally, we believe the app can open up new sales opportunities by appealing to digitally-minded consumers and making ticket purchases more streamlined.”

To check any Louisiana Lottery ticket using the app, players scan the bar code on the front of the ticket with their device’s camera. The app will let them know the status of their ticket, including whether it is a winner and the amount of the win. The results are stored in the app as a reminder for the player to cash any winnings; however, the valid, original printed Lottery ticket is still required to claim a prize.

To purchase a draw-style game ticket using the app, players must first create their playslip on the app and present the resulting code to be scanned at retail. This feature allows the customer to decide on their numbers, the number of drawings and other game options before reaching checkout. The cost of the wager is also clearly communicated on the app in advance.

“Even though Lottery drawings generate winning numbers at random, our players enjoy choosing numbers they believe are ‘hot’ or ‘due’. One particularly cool feature on the app allows you to choose each of your numbers based on how frequently or infrequently they have been drawn in the last year,” Hudson added.

At this time, tickets for Lottery games cannot be purchased on the app, as the state has a law prohibiting the online purchase of Lottery tickets, but if that should change Hudson believes the app would be a great way to deliver an online purchase experience.

The Louisiana Lottery Official Mobile App is available for free download in the App Store for Apple devices and on Google Play for Android devices. More information about the app’s features, an instructional user video, frequently asked questions about the app, and direct links to download can all be found on the Lottery’s website: www.louisianalottery.com/mobile-app.

“Our new mobile app is one more way the Lottery is meeting its mission to maximize revenue for K-12 public education while also promoting the high standards of integrity and public trust,” said Hudson.

The Lottery reminds ticket purchasers to play responsibly, encouraging anyone who has a gambling problem, or friends and family of anyone with a gambling problem, to call toll-free 1-877-770-7867 for help.  Ticket purchasers must be at least 21 years of age.
