Brand new to playing the game, K. A. Miller of Lafayette claimed the first Lotto jackpot prize of 2020 -- $525,000 from the Jan. 29th drawing -- after his ticket matched all six numbers.
Miller said he typically plays Powerball but recently decided to “branch out” and try Lotto, especially since it “only costs a dollar.”
The winning ticket was sold at Lafayette Corner Express on N. University Avenue in Lafayette. The store received a one-time selling bonus of $5,250, which is 1% of the jackpot prize.
The winning numbers were 25-27-28-31-33-37. Miller claimed the prize Monday at the Lottery’s Baton Rouge headquarters and received $372,750 after state and federal tax withholdings. Lottery ticket purchasers must be at least 21 years of age. Draw-style game tickets must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing. Anyone who may have a gambling problem or friends and family of anyone with a gambling problem should call toll free 1-877-770-7867 for help. For security purposes, the Lottery strongly encourages players to sign the back of their tickets immediately after purchasing.
