Louisiana Lottery Kicks Off Mardi Gras Season With Create a Cake Giveaway

BATON ROUGE – As King’s Day officially kicks off carnival season on Saturday, the Louisiana Lottery is spotlighting its Mardi Gras scratch-off games by hosting a king cake giveaway on its website Jan. 6-28 in conjunction with Cartozzo’s Bakery, a gourmet wholesale and online bakery in Kenner. As part of their entry, participants will share their “dream” king cake flavor for a chance to join the experts at Cartozzo’s to help prepare a version of it.

“Each year the Lottery produces Mardi Gras scratch-off games that are some of our best-selling games during the winter months,” noted Lottery President Rose Hudson. “Our games are known for giving players the chance to dream a little; now we’re asking them to dream up their favorite king cake flavor. Cartozzo’s Bakery is the perfect local partner to provide this unique experience.”

During the promotional period, visitors to www.louisianalottery.com/mardi-gras can enter a random drawing to win one of 14 large cinnamon Cartozzo’s Bakery king cakes and $10 worth of Mardi Gras scratch-offs.  A grand-prize winner, selected by Cartozzo’s, will also receive the chance to create their “dream” king cake at the bakery.

“We’ve been baking king cakes using my great-grandfather’s recipe for over four generations,” explained Angelo Cartozzo Jr. of Cartozzo’s Bakery. “Tradition plays a leading role in everything Mardi Gras, including king cakes, but we enjoy experimenting with new flavors, too, to add to our mix. I’m looking forward to seeing what Louisiana Lottery players come up with!”
