Covington resident Todd Tully woke up to exciting news after the Louisiana Lottery’s Lotto drawing on Wednesday, August 9 -- he was a half a million dollars richer.

“I woke up at 3 a.m. realizing the drawing was over and immediately checked my Lotto tickets,” Tully recalled as he realized he held the sole winning ticket for the game’s $525,000 jackpot. “I woke up everyone in the house! I was surprised, excited and awake... I couldn’t go back to sleep after that!”

The 46-year-old is a frequent Lottery player. “I buy Powerball and Lotto tickets every week, at the same place. They’ll always talk to you and are really friendly,” Tully said. Tully purchased his winning quick-pick ticket at Cigs-N-Things on Highway 59 in Abita Springs. The store will receive a one-time selling bonus of $5,250, which is 1 percent of the prize.

Tully received $397,500 after state and federal tax deductions and already has plans for the windfall. “I’m going to pay bills, buy a new house, a new car and maybe go on a vacation!” he exclaimed.

Lottery ticket purchasers must be at least 21 years of age. Draw-style game tickets must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing. Anyone who may have a gambling problem or friends and family of anyone with a gambling problem should call toll free 1-877-770-7867 for help.

For security purposes, the Lottery strongly encourages players to sign the back of their tickets immediately after purchasing. More information about Lotto and other jackpot winners can be found on the Lottery’s website, www.louisianalottery.com.
