Baton Rouge Woman Claims Easy 5 Jackpot

Betty Farlow almost didn’t stop at her favorite Baton Rouge retailer on Wednesday to purchase a Lottery ticket, but now she’s sure glad she did. Farlow won the $70,000 Louisiana Lottery Easy 5 jackpot from the March 2 drawing, which she claimed Thursday at Lottery headquarters.
The 65-year-old Baton Rouge resident received $49,000 after state and federal tax withholdings. The winning ticket was purchased at Romero’s Food Mart #2 on Joor Road in Baton Rouge. The store will receive a one-time selling bonus of $700, which is 1 percent of the prize.
Farlow, a weekly draw-style game player, said her original plans were to wait until later in the evening on the night of the drawing to purchase a ticket when her husband, Michael Farlow, got off of work.
“I’m so glad I didn’t wait,” Farlow said. “I was so shocked that I had to look at the numbers three times!”
Ticket purchasers must be at least 21 years of age. Draw-style game tickets must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing. Anyone who may have a gambling problem or friends and family of anyone with a gambling problem should call toll free 1-877-770-7867 for help.
For security purposes, the Lottery strongly encourages players to sign the back of their tickets immediately after purchasing. More information about other Easy 5 winners can be found on the Lottery’s website, www.louisianalottery.com.
