Louisiana Lottery Players Win Big on World Record Powerball Drawing

More than 442,000 Louisiana Lottery players won cash prizes during the record $1.5 billion Powerball drawing on Jan. 13, including one $1 million match-5 winner, for a total of more than $4 million in prize money. Three tickets sold in Florida, California and Tennessee won the jackpot, which is the largest in Powerball and world history. The winning numbers were 04-08-19-27-34 and the Powerball number was 10.Louisiana’s $1 million-winning Powerball ticket was purchased at Fair City Truck Stop on Washington Street in Franklinton, matching all five white ball numbers but missing the red Powerball number. The store will receive a bonus of $10,000, which is 1 percent of the prize, for selling the ticket. In addition, there were 13 Powerball tickets sold in Louisiana that matched four of the five white ball numbers and the Powerball number to win $50,000, including two in which the Power Play option was added, doubling that prize to $100,000 when 2X multiplier was selected during the drawing. Cutting Avenue In addition, during last night’s drawings the $140,630 Easy 5 jackpot was won last night by a ticket sold at Boomtown New Orleans in Harvey. That retailer receives a 1 percent bonus or $1,406. Players should sign the back of their ticket immediately after purchasing for security purposes and treat their tickets like cash. After the drawing, winners have 180 days to claim their prizes. Louisiana Lottery retailers are required to pay prizes of $50 or less and are strongly encouraged to pay prizes of up to $600. Prizes of more than $600 must be claimed at a Lottery office; Powerball prizes of more than $510,000 must be claimed at the Lottery’s headquarters in Baton Rouge. In the lead up to Wednesday drawing, which captivated the nation, nearly $23 million worth of Powerball tickets were sold in Louisiana for the week beginning Sunday, Jan. 10. Louisiana Lottery sales for the entire jackpot run, which began Nov. 5, totaled a whopping $60.2 million. The Powerball jackpot was last hit Nov. 4. During the entire run, Louisiana produced three $1 million winners and 31 winners of the $50,000 prize level, including one who purchased the Power Play option and multiplied their prize to $150,000 and two others who multiplied their prizes to $100,000. At least 35 percent of all Louisiana Lottery ticket sales is transferred to the state and dedicated to the Minimum Foundation Program, which funds public education in Louisiana. Prior to Wednesday’s jackpot, the largest Powerball jackpot won was $590.5 million; that prize was claimed in 2013 by a woman in Florida. Louisiana has had 15 Powerball jackpot winners since joining the game in 1995. The most recent was on May 25, 2013, claimed by The Williams Trust of New Orleans which split a $50 million jackpot with two other winning tickets sold in Delaware and Florida.
