The Louisiana Lottery Corporation announced that it has transferred over $9.8 million from October revenues to the state treasury department.

Total October revenues of over $28.2 million resulted in $9,880,170 being sent to the state treasury.

The Lottery's total revenue generated by the scratch-off and draw-style game ticket sales has surpassed $5 billion and over $1.7 billion has been transferred to the state treasury department since its inception in 1991.

Under state law, the treasury department receives 35 percent of every $1 sale and proceeds are earmarked for the Minimum Foundation Program that funds public education in Louisiana. At least 50 percent of sales go to fund prizes and retailers receive at least 5 percent as commission. Less than 10 percent of sales is retained by the Lottery for operating costs.

All Lottery ticket purchasers must be at least 21 years of age. Anyone with a gambling problem, or friends of anyone with a gambling problem, are encouraged to call toll-free 1-877-770-7867.
