BATON ROUGE – For the second quarter of fiscal year 2024, the Louisiana Lottery Corporation transferred more than $51.6 million to the state treasury, bringing total year-to-date contributions to more than $106 million, about $11.2 million less than the same quarter last year, but still exceeding budgeted transfers by almost $3.2 million.

With revenue of $165,229,098 the Lottery’s total second-quarter state transfers were $51,606,998 or 31.2%. Since the Lottery began operations in 1991, it has brought in more than $13.2 billion in revenue and transferred nearly $4.7 billion to the state treasury.

“Sales figures for the quarter took a dip due to a lack of large Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots occurring during the last three months," explained Lottery President Rose Hudson, “even though scratch-off and daily-game sales continued to excel. Although unpredictable, the power of large jackpots to influence overall sales cannot be understated.”

Retailers earn 5% sales commission, plus incentives for cashing winning tickets and bonuses for selling big winning tickets.  For October through December of 2024, retailer compensation totaled over $9.1 million, bringing total fiscal-year-to-date retailer earnings to more than $18.6 million.

Over the last couple of years, the Lottery began adjusting scratch-off game prize structures, increasing prize payouts, adding more higher price-point games and launching new types of games. This strategy has been well received by players, resulting in net gains for the state.

Lottery ticket purchasers must be at least 21 years of age. Anyone with a gambling problem, or friends of anyone with a gambling problem, is encouraged to call toll-free 1-877-770-7867 for assistance. For security purposes, players should sign the back of their tickets after purchasing.
